Cincinnati Prepares for Olympics of Choir
Chorus America statistics show that 42.6 million people in the US sing in more than 270,000 choruses, a number that keeps growing thanks to the popularity of television shows like America’s Got Talent and Glee.
In fact, when it was announced that the World Choir Games will be held in the US for the first time, the response was so overwhelming that organizers had to extend early registration to catch up with requests. The competition, to be held in Cincinnati, Ohio, July 4-12, 2012, is open to any amateur choir worldwide. More than 400 choirs and 200,000 individuals from 70 countries are expected to participate.
At a kickoff event held in July this year, Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory said he is honored to be hosting the largest choral event in the entire world. For more information and to register a choir, visit the website www.2012worldchoirgames.com.
