Ken’s Jazz Lounge: 12 Great Jazz Tunes for French Horn with Transpositions

When horn player Ken Wiley first decided to play jazz on the French horn he had to resort to oftenunreliable “illegal” fake books. Then he discovered play-a-longs in the keys of C, Bb, and Eb. He would copy the tune, replacing the C changes with F changes. He overcame the fact that the melody was still in C, by putting the tune to memory.
Now Wiley offers other horn players his own play-along for jazz horn in the key of F with transpositions for Bb, Eb, concert, and bass clef.
The tunes included are among Wiley’s personal favorites: “Bag’s Groove,” “Oleo,” “All Blues,” “Equinox,” and “Scrapple from the Apple.” An included CD contains tuning notes and chords, plus all of the pieces in the book to play along with.
